Where to look for when security is a top priority in deciding your signage solution

With all the technology available today, you may be wondering how to make sure that your digital signage is secure. You want to ensure that any information you're displaying on your signage displays can't be controlled by unauthorized users.

This means that you need to take steps to prevent third parties from accessing this data and using it for malicious purposes. In this article, we'll explore some things you can do to optimize your digital signage security so that only authorized users can decide what's displayed on your display network.

Security of MagicINFO Cloud vs MagicINFO on-premise

MagicINFO 9 is ISO certified (27001 and 27701) which is the highest level of security recognized globally. There are certain things to consider when choosing between the MagicINFO Cloud and on-premise options. To find out what works best for you, you must first outline your goals and have a clear understanding of how to maintain your signage network.

For example, MagicINFO Cloud could be a better fit for businesses that do not want (or cannot invest) in having a dedicated IT team to take care of the network. Moreover, the cloud option has become much more affordable and is easier to implement. Other reasons why organizations switch to cloud solutions include stronger data security and flexibility.

Furthermore, MagicINFO Cloud is a hosted service that allows you to access your MagicINFO account on someone else's servers. This means they must manage the digital signage display security and maintenance of their infrastructure in order to meet your needs. With the private cloud option, you can take advantage of more options to secure your digital signage network.

On the other side, MagicINFO on-premise gives you control over how and where your data is stored, but this comes at the cost of more responsibility: You have to maintain your own server(s). While this isn't an issue for most organizations, it can cause headaches down the line if you don't have sufficient resources or expertise in-house.

How can I keep my signage system secure?

First, you need to know what data is actually being stored and where it's being stored. Once you have that information, you can determine the best way to protect your signage system. Over the years, we have found that there are a few ways to keep your signage system secure:

Password policy solutions

We recommend you use digital signage solutions for your network that offers the option to set a password policy. We also encourage you to take advantage of the Two Factor Authentification features. Having a password policy could level up your defenses against third parties and as a result, keep your data safe.

Managing user roles

We recommend you take advantage of functions that allow you to manage the user roles, in addition to setting up a password policy. Choose a digital signage solution that allows you to give different access levels to members of your organization. This way you can ensure that only authorized personnel have access to sensitive information.

For example, software that offers Role Base Access Control can help you give specific users the right to view only specific device groups and limit their rights within the solution. Setting this up can be a difficult task, which is why we prepared a blog post with the top 3 questions to answer when determining roles and access which dives into further detail.

Set security options for the digital signage hardware

It is important to also think about the hardware of your signage network. Thus, we advise you to choose a signage solution that has remote management options. You want to be able to switch off any of your devices from any location. This is important because the hardware is installed in public places and authorized individuals could gain access to it, so you want to be able to cut the power off remotely if needed. Additional hardware settings that are good to know include physical and remote security options.
