Risks of not migrating from MagicINFO On-Premise

Written by Radost | 15-okt-2026

MagicINFO On-Premise is entering its final support phase, but that does not mean your signage network will suddenly stop working. With support currently scheduled to end on 31 December 2029, the real question is how long you can safely wait. This article explains the key risks of delaying your MagicINFO On-Premise migration, including licence availability, security updates, infrastructure management, compatibility, and reduced planning time.

What are the main risks of delaying a MagicINFO On-Premise migration?

The five main risks of delaying a MagicINFO On-Premise migration are licence limitations, security and patching, ongoing IT management, hardware compatibility, and reduced migration planning time. The important point is to understand which risks apply to your organisation and when they become relevant. For your convenience, we’ve created the table below:

1. Licence and scalability risks after MagicINFO End of Sale

The End of Sale date does not mean that existing installations stop functioning. This means the ability to purchase new MagicINFO On-Premise licences will end on 31 December 2026. Existing deployments remain supported after this point. However, future expansions will be affected. Therefore, those must be planned in advance. To help you with this challenge, our team has created the MagicINFO Migration guide.

This matters most for growing digital signage networks. If you expect to open new locations or add screens, waiting could limit how your existing environment can expand. In our recent webinar, we covered this question and discussed the future of MagicINFO in more depth. To access the full recording, register here.

In 2027 and beyond, no one will be able to purchase additional licences. That means that in case you need to add new devices to your network, you might be looking at a very costly and unplanned migration to another solution. Of course, all of that could be avoided if you stock up in advance. Purchase extra MagicINFO licences directly from us or talk to your representative to evaluate the best path forward.

2. MagicINFO security risks after support ends

Like other enterprise software, MagicINFO must be maintained and updated to remain secure. During the support period, organisations can keep their environment updated as per Samsung's advice. After End of Support at the end of 2029, future updates and technical support are no longer expected under the current lifecycle plan.

And so, the important long-term question is: ‘What happens when vendor support ends?’. MagicInfo Services therefore recommends moving to another supported solution before that point. You can read more about the three paths our team recommends in this guide. And if you’re ready to take the first step, you can book a free consultation with our experts to discuss the future of your digital signage network.

3. Ongoing server and IT management

MagicINFO On-Premise gives organisations direct control over their environment. For some IT teams, that is a key advantage. It also means that the infrastructure remains your organisation's responsibility. Depending on the setup, this can include the MagicINFO server, database, backups, software updates, monitoring, and general system maintenance.

Therefore, the End of Sale date is not automatically a reason to move to another solution right away. An organisation with suitable infrastructure and experienced internal IT resources may be comfortable continuing this way during the support period. The risk becomes more relevant after the End of Support date, as we mentioned previously.

However, moving to a cloud-managed platform can transfer some of the IT team’s responsibilities away from them. Whether that would be to move on-premise to MagicINFO Cloud or another cloud-based solution, such as VXT, your team’s workload could be eased.

4. Future hardware and compatibility risks

Your current displays may continue working well with your on-premise setup during the support period. However, adding new devices to your network won’t be possible after the End of Sale date unless you’ve purchased licences in advance. As our experts explain in the short video above, you can stock up on MagicINFO licences and activate those on a later date, even after 31 December 2026.

Samsung is continuing to develop its VXT platform, the official successor of MagicINFO. Meaning that the tech giant’s focus would be on its newer solution. There are already examples of newer signage products where compatibility differs. For example, there are already Samsung displays on the market that can be managed through VXT but not via MagicINFO.

It’s important to note here that this does not mean that all future Samsung displays will stop supporting MagicINFO. It does mean that hardware compatibility should form part of your migration planning, particularly if you expect to refresh or expand your digital signage network.

5. The risk of starting your MagicINFO migration too late

For many organisations, the largest risk is not a single technical issue. It is running out of time to make a well-considered decision. A MagicINFO migration can involve more than installing another CMS. Before choosing a path, you may need to review a number of variables such as your existing content, network and server requirements, integrations, display models and firmware, and user permissions.

A small network with straightforward requirements may be relatively simple to assess. However, a large digital signage setup across several locations can require more preparation. Therefore, we, at MagicInfo Services, recommend starting the review early, especially where many displays, users, locations, or content workflows are involved.

Starting early gives you more time to understand the options and choose a suitable migration window.

Is it safe to stay on MagicINFO On-Premise until 2029?

Yes, MagicINFO On-Premise is still safe to use until 2029. That doesn’t mean, however, that from 1 January 2030 the solution will be unsafe. Instead, it would be like using Windows XP on your current device. The system will still be usable, but no new security fixes are coming, which could lead to a potential security risk over time.

Therefore, we recommend you start planning early on to ensure the safety of your entire digital signage network. For some organisations, staying on MagicINFO On-Premise during the support period can still be reasonable. If the network is stable, licences are sufficient, the system is well maintained, current displays remain suitable, and the IT team can support the infrastructure. Then, the remaining time can be used to prepare a smooth migration rather than forcing an immediate change.

The risk increases when the signage setup is growing, hardware is ageing, integrations are complex, internal MagicINFO knowledge is limited, or no migration budget and timeline have been agreed. In these cases, the better question is not simply “Can we stay on MagicINFO?” but “How long can we stay without limiting our future options?”. This is where our experts can help, book a free consultation today, and start planning.

Plan Your MagicINFO On-Premise Migration Before Risk Becomes Urgency

MagicINFO On-Premise can remain a suitable option during its support period, especially for stable networks with sufficient licences, compatible hardware, and experienced IT teams. However, the risks increase as End of Support approaches, particularly around security updates, future expansion, hardware compatibility, infrastructure management, and the time needed to prepare a migration.

The key is to start planning before those risks limit your options. Reviewing your displays, licences, infrastructure, integrations, and future requirements early gives you more time to choose the right migration path and suitable timing. MagicInfo Services can help you assess your current setup and prepare for the next stage of your digital signage network.
